June Newsletter

President’s Corner

Spouses,

Welcome to the beginning of a new year for NOSC! I would like to recognize the previous board for all of their hard work over the past year. We truly appreciate your dedication to making our group a success. Thank you!

A little bit about me: I am married to Adam Letizio and am a stay at home mom to 8-month-old Alden. We are from New Hampshire, and are big fans of New England sports teams. I have my degree in elementary education. I look forward to getting back to teaching one day, but for now, I’m enjoying my “career” as a military spouse and mom.

This year’s board is eager to continue the traditions of the VQ-4 NOSC. We welcome suggestions, comments, and concerns. Please stay involved and let us know how the NOSC can best serve you. We look forward to working with you this year.

Take care,

Katie Letizio

PLAYpass Program- Get out and Play!

The new PLAYpass Program will provide deployed-affected Single Airmen and Air Force families respite from the challenges of deployment. In continuing efforts to build a resilient force, Single Airmen returning from deployment and families of deployed members can receive special discounts and rewards to help make their deployment easier.

The new PLAYpass card replaces the DePLAYment program offered during the Year of the Air Force Family and has been expanded to provide deployment respite support for not only deployed-affected families but also support for returning Single Airmen. PLAYpass offers discount cards that provide members and their eligible family members the opportunity to participate in AF Force Support Squadron programs for free or at a reduced cost. The program will kick off in late May and run through Dec 2011.

Installations will distribute PLAYpass cards pre-printed with specific dollar value coupon blocks that can be applied to the specified programs offered at each participating location. Each card is valued in excess of $500.

The PLAYpass card may be picked up at Airman and Family Readiness Center in bldg 6001 starting May 31st, 2011. For more information or to find out if you are eligible for a PLAYpass, visit www.MyAirForceLife.com

October Newsletter

President’s Corner

Dear Spouses,

Another month come and gone! October is a great month. The Navy Birthday Ball is this month! I wish I could see you all dressed up, but as you are reading this, I am in Minnesota and will be until the 13th. Take lots of pictures, I would love to see them!

Also this month, Mr. Day has offered his time to give us a little question and answer session/TACAMO 101! This is a great opportunity (for ALL spouses… even if you have been to one before) to find out a little more about what our spouses do. It is on October 14th at 6:00 PM in the Ready Room at the squadron. Let me know if you are planning on attending so I can get a list together so we can get through security at the turnstiles!

Attached to the newsletter you will find the most updated copy of the spouse’s roster. Please check it and send me any changes/updates. I hope you all have a great month! I look forward to see you all soon!

Take care,

Erika Jepperson

From the COW Pen:

Happy Fall Ladies! The cooler weather is approaching and I am glad to be out of the 100º days. Next weekend, the Oklahoma Navy League will be hosting the 2010 Navy Ball. It is quite an event (the largest in the country!) and the ballroom at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum is really lovely. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you there all dressed up. Not all duty stations have a Navy Ball like this one, so enjoy it while you can.

The other big event this month is the Spouse's Brief, on October 14th, 6:00 p.m. at the squadron's ready room. This is really a great opportunity to get some time with the Skipper, and ask anything you'd like about TACAMO, concerns, ideas, questions or even get some insight on what might be next. He'll answer anything and everything he can and has been really looking forward to talking with you! Please do what you can to take advantage of this opportunity, and remember, what is talked about in the ready room, stays in the ready room!

I'm here if you need anything. Supporting our VQ-4 spouses is our number one priority. You're not alone.

Wishing all of you the best,
Eva Day

September Newletter

President’s Corner

Hello Friends,

Wow...it’s already September! I don’t know about you all, but I say bring on FALL! I love the fall here in Oklahoma. The weather is beautiful.

We have a lot of great things coming up this month! Dining out, monthly meeting, baby shower, play dates, and ladies night out! Lots of opportunities to get out of the house and socialize.

I still do not have final numbers in from the auction, but I will let you know when I do! Thank you again to all those who helped!

I think that is about all...I am looking forward to seeing you all dressed up for Dining Out!

Sincerely,

Erika Jepperson

VQ-4 Spouses,

Happy September! I hope you are enjoying this brief spell of cool weather and the extra long weekend — I sure am!

First: I would really like to thank our board members and all the spouses that put time in gathering donations, working and attending the 2010 VQ-3 & VQ-4 NOSC Service Auction. Your efforts and attendance were noticed and greatly appreciated. Our Navy families in need will undoubtedly benefit from all your hard work and support. Thank you for making a difference.

Next: Your Shadows board members are working hard to plan some fun and informative events this fall. It's a great time to socialize, network and relax with the people that understand you the most. Understandably, it's hard to make every event. But try out a few, the rewards are many!

Finally: I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the upcoming Dining Out! I really missed going to them when we've been stationed outside of the squadron. Enjoy it while you can! It's a fun event, and we all deserve a chance to dress up and spend a night out on the town.

Remember, if you ever need to talk to someone with a bit a naval spouse "experience", I am here for all of you. Just give me a call — (405) 562-1263.

I wish you all the best,

Eva Day

June Newsletter

President’s Corner

Spouses,

Well, it is the beginning of a new year for NOSC! I would like to start off saying Happy Father’s Day to all of the Dads! I would also like to thank the previous board for all their hard work! This past year was great and I know this upcoming year will be just as amazing!

Here is a little bit about myself (I feel like most of you know me, so I will keep it brief): I am currently a stay at home mom to Hunter (2 yrs) and Lillian (6 months) and wife to Todd Jepperson (Jep). Before having kids, I worked as a registered nurse in pediatrics. One day I will get back to it, but for now I am happy staying home and looking forward to being active on the board again this year!

As president, I am here to help make this group what you want it to be! After all, it is what we make of it! I want to hear from you….the good and the bad. I am also here for support, so please email me or call me and I will do my best to help.

I look forward to getting to know you all better. See you soon!

Sincerely,

Erika Jepperson

Silver Tea

Today Yvonne was presented with her invitation to the Silver Tea. Tradition is that the COW is surprised by the delivery of her personal invitation by a member of the squadron in dress uniform carrying the envelope on a silver tray. Today we caught Yvonne off guard at her daughter's volleyball game! Watch the video below to see her reaction.

The Silver Tea is a long standing Naval tradition which honors the outgoing Skipper's spouse with a tea hosted by the NOSC. This year we will be holding our tea at the Museum Cafe at the Art Museum of Oklahoma City. Look for an invitation in your mailbox with details. Hope to see you there!
